A Muslim who sent a message on Twitter inviting people to attend a Ramadan meal at mosques has been left shocked that Twitter flagged up the message as ‘suspicious’.

Sabah Ahmedi, one of Britain’s youngest imams, sent the message to journalists and others from various backgrounds in order to ‘build bridges between communities’.

The message invited people to iftaar, the time of day at which Muslims end their fast during the month of Ramadan.

The message read: ‘As you are probably aware, we are currently in the month of Ramadan.

‘Every day, those of us who are able to fast, wait till sunset to break it and have a meal.

‘I was wondering if you would be so kind to join us for Iftar (the evening meal) in one of our mosques, either in Southfields or Morden.’

The message adds: ‘We feel that this is a great opportunity to reach out and build bridges and friendships especially in the current climate we are living in.’

However, some of the users who received the message said they got a warning from Twitter that it had been ‘hidden due to suspicious content’.

Mr Ahmedi told Metro.co.uk that he’d never seen such a message or warning before.

He said: ‘On what basis is this message suspicious?

‘I emailed a lot of journalists about this event, I worry they may not have opened it because of this warning.

‘If we’re trying to reach out to communities, build bridges, why is this message being blocked?

‘Only recently we’ve seen, according to the Hope not Hate report, that more than a third of people in the UK believe that Islam is a threat to the British way of life, we’re trying to address these suspicions’.
