Tavernier and Arfield on target as Steven Gerrard’s Rangers get revenge on Hoops
RANGERS got their revenge on Celtic as they claimed the bragging rights in the season’s last Old Firm match.
James Tavernier and Scott Arfield were on target as the Light Blues proved too much for the Hoops at Ibrox.
Rangers were off to the perfect start as they scored within the first two minutes.
Tavernier whipped a cross into the box from the left flank and the ball evaded everyone in the box before nestling in the bottom corner.
Jermain Defoe then attempted to extend the Light Blues’ advantage as he powered a shot towards goal, but Scott Bain saved comfortably.
Defoe also had claims for a penalty turned down as he fell to the ground after colliding with Kris Ajer.
The striker went down too easily and appeared to force contact with Ajer rather than being fouled.
A major flashpoint happened just five minutes after the break when Jon Flanagan escaped a red card.
The Gers full-back appeared to elbow Scott Brown in the penalty area before he was booked and the corner taken again.
