Letter: Dire climate predictions don’t mean it’s hopeless
Dire climate predictionsdon’t mean it’s hopeless
Re: “Latest global threat — extinction” (Page A1, May 8):
When faced with dire predictions about the fate of our planet, it is easy to become overwhelmed and feel there is nothing we can do.
However, the worst thing we can do is to give up hope and do nothing. In fact, there is much we can do in concert with other like-minded individuals to address global environmental issues. For example, in the area of climate change, organizations such as 350.org, the Climate Reality Project and the Citizens’ Climate Lobby are working hard to convince local, state and federal governments to take action.
Intensive lobbying in Congress has already resulted in the passage of one powerful climate-change bill (HR 9) and introduction of another (HR 763) with 34 cosponsors.
By joining and supporting organizations that are combating environmental degradation we, along with millions of other concerned citizens, can make a difference.
