Racing Report Card: A horse for the tracker, a French marvel and a star performer in the making on Sunday
MOST of the action of note happened in France and Ireland today, where there were big performances from some exciting prospects.
We’ve picked out some of the key moments that may have escaped your notice.
One for the tracker
Hamariyna – 2.50 Leopardstown
Mick Halford’s three-year-old filly Hamariyna looks one to follow after an emphatic success in the 1,000 Guineas Trial.
She showed a nice turn of foot at the 2f pole and had enough in the tank close home to defy a host of challengers.
Despite the contest not looking overly strong, she has a lovely attitude and it will be interesting to see how she fares stepping into Group 1 company.
C’est magnifique!
Persian King – 2.55 Longhchamp
Andre Fabre’s classy colt was punted off the boards before the French 2,000 Guineas – and delivered in style.
Although jockey Pierre-Charles Boudot was forced to extract all he could muster from his partner, the son of Kingman was more than willing and maintained his unbeaten record in Group company.
He’s now likely to head to the French Derby, where he’ll surely be very tough to beat.
Star perfomer
Broome – 3.25 Leopardstown
Broome Broome! Aidan O’Brien’s got another machine on his hands in Broome, who went on to strike in the Derby Trial in emphatic fashion.
Despite finding himself a little too far back and getting trapped in a pocket, it didn’t matter – as soon as he found daylight, he whooshed clear under Donnacha.
He’s now headed for Epsom, where he’ll be a tough nut for anyone to crack.
