Why did we make an early call on Solskjaer rather than waiting until the end of the season?

This isn't a thread about the decision to hire Solskjaer itself but rather the decision to make appointment earlier than we had to.

After all, it's not hard to see why we appointed Solskjaer. He had a brilliant run of early form, he was extremely popular with the fans, pundits and players were calling for him to get the job and (unlike some other managers) he wasn't going to cost millions to secure. At the time we made the decision he was the easy appointment to make.
