The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Sunday, May 12, declared that it was not aware of the report it has marked choices of property allegedly belonging to Senate President Bukola Saraki in Lagos.

The EFCC spokesperson, Toni Orilade, told Premium Times that he was not aware of the marking of the properties belonging to Saraki.

Orilade said: “I am not aware of the marking, when I get information in respect thereof, I shall communicate with you immediately.”

Meanwhile, Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Saraki’s special adviser Yusuph Olaniyonu, in a statement, said EFCC's current investigation is mischievous, contrary to the tenets of the rule of law and only aimed at settling scores.

Olaniyonu explained that the commission earlier investigated the building as well as the case initiated by the federal government at the Code of Conduct Tribunal.

According to him, in that case, Saraki was discharged and acquitted because the courts believe the government has no case.

The statement read: “Our attention has been drawn to the fact that the EFCC marked certain property belonging to Senate president, Abubakar Bukola Saraki, obviously under the claim that they are subject of investigation.

“The action of the EFCC only reinforced our earlier stated position that their current investigation is mischievous, contrary to the tenets of the rule of law and only aimed at settling scores.

''This position is founded on the fact that these same buildings were the subject of earlier investigations by the EFCC as well as the case initiated by the federal government at the Code of Conduct Tribunal.''

Recall that Legit.ng reported that the EFCC sealed off five choice properties of Senate president, Bukola Saraki, located in high brow Ikoyi area of Lagos over alleged corruption.

The agency is in the process of approaching a court for an order for the interim forfeiture of the properties pending the conclusion of Saraki’s trial for allegations against him.

The mansions which include 15, 15A, 17 and 17A McDonald Road, Ikoyi were sealed off based on the ongoing investigation of the politician by the EFCC.
