2019 Spring 900 Recap & Results

0

We were excited to host the 2019 Spring 900 this weekend at our home range in Phoenix. We welcomed 76 archers to the shooting line that were representing 17 clubs throughout Arizona and our guest team from Mexico, the Grizzlies! The weather was perfect for a May event with only light winds and sunny skies.

We had many archers that were competing for their first time and they were quick to pick up on the process as they came prepared by their home clubs. Way to go archers!

The first arrows were shot after the playing of the National Anthem at 8am and awards wrapped up by 2pm. The tournament had plenty of friendly competition yet very competitive scores! The top score of the tournament was shot by Matthew Fyffe in the Compound Senior Male division with a whopping 885 out of a possible 900 points. Larry Butterfield followed closely behind with an 879 in the Compound Master 60 Male division. Superior shooting guys!

In our youth divisions, archer Alejandro Chacon shot an impressive 812 in the Recurve Bowman Male division. Barebow archer Mikie Kolb in the Bowman Male division shot a 702! Top recurve score for the upper division distances was shot by Whitney Jensen with an 824. The archers in Arizona keep setting the bar higher each year and with our guest Grizzlies archers, the competition was fierce!

The archers and spectators at the range were able to enjoy some fresh juice, kombucha and wellness shots thanks to the generous donation from Suja Juice! Everyone enjoyed trying new flavors and the range was a buzz about the yummy drinks being offered. Thank you SUJA JUICE for supporting the event and the participants by providing healthy and natural beverages while they shot.

Thank you to all of the archers, spectators and coaches that came out to support this annual club fundraiser with us. We appreciate the continued support from the community and opportunity  to be able to host these fun learning events. We wouldn’t be able to make these events come to fruition without the amazing volunteers of the Papago Archery Club. Want to give a shout out to Ron Shinn, Ian Wolfersteig, Jocelyn Horton, Nina Parker, Jeff Bower, Jorge Garcia, Kevin Ikegami, Kelsey Lard, Max Brazsky & Jerod Focht for all of your help with set up/tear down, field crew, being archers agents, scoring helpers, bale assistants and to our photographer, HP Nagal. Thank you to our judges, Lester Chin and Kristy Wapniarski for keeping the tournament running smoothly and keeping everyone safe. Last, but not least, thank you to our Tournament Director, Nick Wapniarski for making this event possible.

We hope to see many of you at our next tournament on October 26th – the Halloween Shoot!

Our photographer is getting all of the photos taken at the event finished up and then we will post them here shortly. For a list of the complete results from the event, please click the link below.
