IPL 2019: Lasith Malinga Becomes Last Over Hero as he Scalps Shardul Thakur as Mumbai Indians Beat Chennai Super Kings in Final to Clinch Record Fourth Title | WATCH VIDEO
IPL 2019: It was nine to win off six balls as the finals of 2019 IPL boiled down to the last over. Finally, it was down to two off the last ball and that is when Lasith Malinga pulled out a slower cutter which was too good for Shardul Thakur off the last ball. Thakur just had to get bat on ball but he could not do that as Mumbai edged out Chennai by a run to clinch a record fourth IPL title. Malinga emerged as the last over hero as he powered Mumbai to win with all his experience. It was a slower off-cutter, and things din’t dip in the slot any better. Thakur – poor old Thakur sent ahead of his usual position – walks across his stumps, freezes bang in front of middle looking to flick it across the line. But again, it’s the finals, he chokes, misses and is trapped plumb, bang in front of middle.

Lasith Malinga: If we conceded one run, then we wouldn’t win, and I wanted to win so I got the wicket.
Teams making < 150 batting first in IPL Final:
DC (143) beat RCB by six runs, 2009
MI (148) beat CSK by 23 runs, 2013
MI (129) beat RPS by one run, 2017
MI (149) beat CSK by one run, 2019
It seemed like MS Dhoni’s controversial run-out was the game-changing moment of the finals.
Earlier in the day, Deepak Chahar (3/26) and Imran Tahir (2/23) starred with the ball as Chennai Super Kings (CSK) restricted Mumbai Indians (MI) to 149/8 in 20 overs in the final of the Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium here on Sunday, even as Kieron Pollard hit an unbeaten cameo (41* off 25) down the order.
Mahela Jayawardene: You can’t the match from the dugout. We had the game in our corner when MS got out. Great decision by Rohit to go back to experienced players.
