Game of Thrones Season 8: Here’s proof that there might be four dragons in Westeros

0

Game of Thrones, which is currently in its eighth and final season, has only two more episodes to go before the curtains fall on the series for good. And so far we have seen the living defeat the army of White Walkers, all of Winterfell knowing about Jon actually being a Targaryen and Daenerys not having such a good run so far.

In the last episode, we saw everybody now prepping for the war for the throne which is set to take place between Dany and Cersei. However, so far it seems like Dany isn’t going to be able to do much to knock the crown off Cersei’s head, now that she has only one dragon, a diminishing number of people loyal to her and a weaker claim to the Iron Throne, thanks to her lover boy Jon. But it seems like due to the loss of another one of her dragons, Rhaegal and Missandei, who’s last words may have inspired Dany, she is soon going to abandon her earlier aim of not wanting to become the Queen of the Ashes, and literally be the Mad Queen. But something tells us that things won’t be that simple, given that this show has had a reputation of being twisted and unpredictable.

Are there more dragons in Game of Thrones? Will we see them in GoT S08E05?

But in the preview trailer for Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 5, which will air in India on Monday morning, we saw certain scenes that gave us a hint that maybe Dany might just be able to win this once and for all. In the trailer, it seems like the makers are hinting at the presence of a fourth dragon in Westeros. Since Dany’s journey always showed her with three dragon eggs, we always believed that there would only be three remaining. Viserion died when the Night King shot him down beyond the wall, became a Wight and died once again when Arya killed the Night King. Whereas Rhaegal, who Jon Snow had grown accustomed to, was killed by Euron thanks to the big scorpion, which was Maester Qyburn’s brain child. Drogon, the largest and fiercest of Dany’s dragon still lives, but is very vulnerable due to the presence of the said scorpions and literally nobody to cover its back.

Which brings us back to the preview of episode five, in which we see a stunned Euron looking at the skies as the sound of Dragons echoes through the clouds. In all probability, he could’ve been looking at Drogon, but there are other theories floating around this. But before we get into the theories let us tell you, there is legitimate proof beyond the vague trailer of episode five, that there indeed are four dragons in Westeros, and the makers have literally been flashing it in front of us at the beginning of every episode this season. Yes, we are talking about the all-telling opening credit sequence.

We all saw how the opening credits have been dramatically changed with the sequence taking us into the Winterfell castle and Red Keep for the first time in eight seasons. Even in these opening credit scenes, we go into the Winterfell crypts as well as the cellar where the dragon skulls are kept. In the opening credit, right before the Game of Thrones title comes on, a band around the bright sphere shows us four dragons, with a huge one representing Drogon and three smaller ones.

Could it be Rhaegal that hasn’t actually died? I mean, it wouldn’t be the first time GoT has made us believe a key character has died and brought him back to life. But, another way that it could be true is that maybe the Scorpion isn’t strong enough to kill dragons, or, Rhaegal has been brought back to life. Here’s how that could happen. In season six, Tyrion and Varys, who were charged with maintaining peace in Meereen in Dany’s absence, brought in another Red Priestess called Kinvara to spread Dany’s message among the masses and bring about peace in the city. So it could be possible that Kinvara makes a comeback and brings Rhaegal back to life.

But if it’s not Rhaegal, could it be that there is a fourth dragon in Westeros? Now, this could be possible only if there was one more dragon egg to be found from somewhere. The first theory would be that another dragon egg is discovered from Pentos, however, that theory doesn’t stand strong given that there is no time for anybody to go to Pentos and nuture a dragon till it’s strong enough to fight. The second theory, although, does have some muscle to it. Back in season six, Drogon takes off for a few months, before returning to Dany and having her be captured by another Dothraki hoard. Could it be that Drogon could have given birth to a dragon when he was away? This would give the new Dragon enough time to at least reach its teenage years.

While you may argue that Drogon is male, let us tell you that in the books by George RR Martin, Winds of Winter, it is mentioned that dragons can change their gender. But sadly, those books are still not completed. According to an excerpt from Game of Thrones wikia, it is explained that a Westeros historian Septon Barth believed that dragons were “as changeable as flame”.

Talking of George RR Martin, his books strongly hint towards the possibility of one more dragon being present and something to do with the crypts of Winterfell. Now that we know that Lyanna bore a baby with Rhaegar Targaryen, could it be possible that there is a dragon egg buried somewhere in there? This could explain the fixation and emphasis given to the Winterfell crypts ever since the teasers came out. And with the Night King arising the Army of the Dead in Winterfell, we saw quite a few crypts being broken open by the skeletal remains of the Starks. So maybe, the dragon egg has finally come to surface and will be able to hatch, thanks to Dany and Jon’s presence in there. Could this dragon egg be their baby?

If not in Winterfell, it could also be that some old Dragon eggs remain in the dank cellar beneath the Red Keep, where the skeletons of the dragons are preserved.

If any of this is true, Dany could possibly burn all of King’s Landing, win the war against Cersei and we will finally make sense of the vision she had in the house of the undying and it would also stay true to the prophecy that Maggy the Frog made for Cersei, which said that Cersei would lose her three children and would be replaced by a younger Queen. What finally happens, remains to be found out.
