Emery explains why Arsenal will use youngsters in future as duo impress against Burnley

Unai Emery was pleased that the Premier League season could end with Arsenal looking to the future.

Arsenal finished fifth after a 3-1 win over Burnley, meaning Emery’s debut season at the helm saw them come just one point short of the Champions League places.

Emery was happy with the progress shown over the course of the season, saying: “These three points give us 70, it’s not enough to be in the top four but we were progressing, being consistent. We can be not 100 per cent happy but the players worked to progress all season, to improve in our processes.

“We finished a big distance from Manchester City and Liverpool but closer to Tottenham and Chelsea. Our idea is to continue in this way, in our process.

“After it’s good if individually we take some objectives, like today for Aubameyang [who shares the Premier League Golden Boot prize with Mo Salah and Sadio Mane]. I think every player worked for the team and after helping each other with their capacity and quality.

“Aubameyang is our scorer with [Alexandre] Lacazette and also [Eddie] Nketiah, he’s young but also has the possibility to grow up and improve with us. We can be pleased with him.”

It was a good day for Arsenal’s youngsters, with Joe Willock making his first league start of the season, and Nketiah getting the final goal.

“We need to use the young players as [we did with] Ramsey when he was young,” Emery enthused. “Every player can first take chances and after use these chances to make improvement to be with us.

“Today, for example, Joe Willock and Nketiah played the 90 minutes, 60 and 30. They used this match to help us with a good performance from both. Our responsibility is to give them chances but above all finding the best team performance.”
