UFC 237 medical suspensions: Anderson Silva, Rose Namajunas potentially out 180 days

Anderson Silva and Rose Namajunas received long medical suspensions after UFC 237.

The Brazilian MMA Athletic Commission (CABMMA) announced on Sunday that both "The Spider" and "Thug Rose", who were defeated by Jared Cannonier and Jessica Andrade on Saturday night in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, were given 180-day medical suspensions.

Laureano Staropoli and Bethe Correia are also potentially out 180 days, CABMMA announced.

Namajunas lost to Andrade via second-round knockout at Jeunesse Arena, the victim of a brutal slam in the second round. The now former strawweight champion can return sooner (60 days, with no contact for 45 days) if cleared by a doctor with an MRI on her neck.

Silva injured his right knee after a leg kick thrown by Cannonier. According to sources, the Brazilian did not suffer a fracture, but will have an MRI on Monday to determine how damaged his knee is.

Silva opted not to go to the hospital immediately after the bout, sources said. If cleared by a doctor, the Brazilian legend could return in 45 days (with no contact for 30 days).

Staropoli defeated Thiago Alves via unanimous decision and needs an X-ray of his nose to be able to return before December (45 days, with no contact for 30 days). Correia, who lost a decision to Irene Aldana, also needs clearance of a possible elbow injury to avoid a six-month term.

Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Sergio Moraes, who were brutally knocked out by Ryan Spann and Warlley Alves respectively on the preliminary portion of the card, were given 60-day suspensions. All other fighters received shorter medical suspensions.
