Why the Curry family should be rooting for Seth's Blazers to beat the Warriors
The Portland Trail Blazers are heading to the Western Conference Finals after beating the Denver Nuggets, 100-96, in Game 7 on the road Sunday.
Which means Seth Curry will face his brother, Steph Curry, with a trip to the NBA Finals on the line.
Which also means their parents, Dell and Sonya Curry, are in for a rough stretch of watching their sons battle each other in what should be some great games.
But instead of playing it cute and maybe making half-Blazers, half-Warriors jerseys or something like that, they should go all in on one son and have fun with it.
And that one son should be Seth and the Blazers. For a number of reasons.
First of all, rooting for both will be exhausting for them and the games might even make them physically ill. Instead, if they go all in on Seth they can just focus on the Blazers and put all of their energy into rooting for them to take down the Warriors. While that sounds easy in theory, it will be tough in real life because Steph is also their son, but it’s the healthier route to take.
They could even go all in on it and make it like a WWE storyline, taking it to absurd levels and having fun with it. Because in the end it’s all just fun having two sons playing for a trip to the NBA Finals.
I gotta think Steph would understand and things would be just fine between them once the series is over.
Wouldn’t it be great for us, the viewer, to see them all dolled up in Trail Blazers gear rooting hard for them while rooting against the Warriors? Give us another juicy storyline to enjoy during what has been a fun NBA playoffs so far. We deserve it and we’d be here for it.
Here’s another reason they should just cheer for Portland – Steph already has three rings. Seth has zero. Let the younger brother, who has had to live under Steph’s shadow for his whole basketball career to get his chance to win a ring.
Steph’s legacy has already been cemented. He’s a 3-time champ, a 2-time MVP, and his masterful performance in Game 6 the other night reminded us once again that he’s one of the best shooters to ever play the game.
Steph could then join his parents courtside at the finals, cheering on his brother, which would be quite a moment for their family and wild for us fans watching at home, as we’re so used to seeing Steph playing for a ring.
It just makes so much sense for Dell and Sonya to put some distance between them and Steph for the next few weeks as the series unfolds.
They need to go all in on the Trail Blazers.
For their health.
And for us.
Oh, and also for Seth.
