Meghan Markle Celebrates First Mother’s Day with Sweetest Photo of Baby Archie

Meghan Markle has officially been a mom for almost a week now, and she seems to be settling into the role like a real natural. So, to celebrate Mother’s Day being observed in the U.S. on May 12, the Duchess of Sussex (and presumably the Duke) took to Instagram to share a snapshot of their new bundle of joy — and not only does Harry and Meghan’s Mother’s Day post feature a precious photo of baby Archie, but it also includes a subtle nod to none other than Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana.

But first, let’s talk about those tiny baby toes! On their Sussex Royal Instagram feed, Harry and Meghan shared a snapshot of Meghan cradling baby Archie’s little feet in one hand. And, spoiler alert, the sight of those oh-so-cute toesies is enough to make your ovaries explode. “Paying tribute to all mothers today — past, present, mothers-to-be, and those lost but forever remembered. We honor and celebrate each and every one of you,” the royal couple captioned the photo. “Today is Mother’s Day in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Kenya, Japan, and several countries across Europe. This is the first Mother’s Day for the Duchess of Sussex.”

But it isn’t just Archie’s toes or the fact that this is Meghan’s first Mother’s Day that makes the post so special. Many take the background of the photo to be a tribute to Harry’s late mother, Lady Di. The image, which was reportedly taken at their new Frogmore Cottage home on the Windsor grounds, is set against a backdrop of forget-me-nots — Diana’s favorite flower. The pair then underscored the importance of mothers with a quote from the poem “lands” by Nayyirah Waheed: “My mother was my first country; the first place I ever lived.”

According to People, Meghan is celebrating her first Mother’s Day at home with baby Archie and her own mother, Doria Ragland, who flew in from L.A. shortly before Meghan and Harry’s first child was born on May 6. Of motherhood so far, Meghan gushed earlier this week, “It’s magic, it’s pretty amazing… I have the two best guys in the world, so I’m really happy.”
