Tottenham join Liverpool FC in race for 20-year-old Portuguese midfielder – report
Tottenham Hotspur are interested in a deal to sign Benfica midfielder Gedson Fernandes, who has also been linked with Liverpool FC, according to a report in England.
The Daily Mirror is reporting that Spurs are lining up a potential swoop to sign the 20-year-old defensive midfielder.
The same article states that Tottenham’s top-six rivals Liverpool FC and Manchester United have also been linked with a deal for the Portuguese star.
According to the same story, the north London side have moved ahead of the Premier League clubs after holding talks with Fernandes’ representatives.
The Daily Mirror report goes on to suggest the Portuguese starlet could command a transfer fee in the region of £35m.
Fernandes made his first-team debut for the Benfica team in their 1–0 home win over Fenerbahce in the first leg of the Champions League third qualifying round back in August.
The Portugal Under-21 international has made two assists in 10 starts and 11 substitute appearances in the Portuguese top flight this term.
Fernandes has also got vital Champions League experience under his belt with six appearances in the competition this season.
The 20-year-old netted his first Champions League goal in a 5-1 loss to Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich in the group stage.
Tottenham will take on Liverpool FC in the Champions League final in Madrid next month.
