Dietmar Hamann states his early prediction for Liverpool FC v Tottenham final
Dietmar Hamann has warned Liverpool FC that their clash with Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League final will be “monumentally tight”.
The Reds booked their place in the Champions League final for the second successive season thanks to their thrilling 4-0 win over FC Barcelona at Anfield last week as they came from three goals down from the first leg to beat the Spanish side.
Tottenham, meanwhile, sealed their spot in Madrid in similar style as they came from two goals down to claim a 3-2 win over Ajax in Amsterdam last Wednesday to reach the Champions League final for the first time in their history.
Liverpool FC will be aiming to go one better than they did last season after they were beaten by Real Madrid in the Champions League final last May.
However, former Liverpool FC star Hamann feels that the final will be incredibly close, as the two Premier League sides prepare to slog it out for the biggest trophy in European club football on 1 June.
Speaking in an interview with the Racing Post, Hamann said: “I think it will be monumentally tight, settled probably by one goal, with a slight preference for Liverpool.
“Jurgen Klopp couldn’t stop smiling after that incredible result against Barcelona though he’d have broken into a frown when Lucas Moura struck late on in Amsterdam.
“Trust me, Klopp would far rather Liverpool were taking on Ajax in Madrid than Spurs.
“Surely now there can be no one out there who would dare accuse Tottenham of being bottlers after what they did on Wednesday.”
Liverpool FC will now turn their attentions towards preparing for their crunch clash against the Lilywhites in Madrid early next month.
