‘Dawgs draw Angelina after run-ruling Laredo

BEAUMONT — Stacey Bailey knocked in four runs as East Zone champion Navarro run-ruled Laredo, 11-3, in Sunday’s seven-inning Region XIV Baseball Tournament opening-round game.
Navarro (35-16) advances to a 5 pm Monday Championship Bracket matchup with Angelina, a 12-9 winner Sunday over Blinn.
Coach Matt Podjenski’s Bulldogs launched a 14-hit attack and scored in every inning off three Laredo pitchers. Five Bulldogs produced doubles in the effort: Bailey, Jose Gonzalez, Mason Holt, Kyle Landers and Dawson Woods.
Two of Bailey’s four RBI came via sacrifice flys.
Navarro took the lead for good in the bottom of the third inning when Gonzalez and Woods hit consecutive two-out doubles. The Bulldogs batted around in the fourth when Woods, Kyle Hawkins and Wesley Powell strung together consecutive two-out singles after Rugely reached on an error and Gonzales walked.
Powell knocked in three runs, one with a sacrifice fly.
Lefthander Carson Rollins won for the seventh time, throwing 80 pitches in a six-inning outing. Rollins allowed four hits, struck out six and didn’t yield an earned run. Collin Storms worked the seventh inning.

B-1: Bailey’s one-out sacrifice fly to centerfield enables Holt to score from third base. Holt singled and Landers doubled to start the inning.
B-2: Washburn’s two-out single to centerfield scores Hawkins from second base with the tying run. Hawkins walked and advanced on a sacrifice bunt. The Bulldogs loaded the bases, but couldn’t push across any more runs. (2-2)
B-3: Consecutive two-out doubles by Gonzalez and Woods give Navarro the lead. The Bulldogs again left the bases loaded despite scoring in a third straight inning. (NC, 3-2)

B-5: Landers singled to right field and moved to second base on an error. Bailey drives Landers home with a single to leftfield. Bailey, with 3 RBI today, now has 61 for the season. (NC, 9-2)
