Batkivschyna backs proposal to inaugurate Zelensky on May 19
The Batkivschyna party demands that President-elect Volodymyr Zelenskiy be inaugurated as soon as possible, the party press service said in a statement.
“I think the sooner the president takes the office the more stable the situation will be inside and outside the country. We support the sooner date, the 19th. The 19th it will be,” party deputy chairman Serhiy Sobolev said.
Zelenskiy asked the Verkhovna Rada to schedule his inauguration for May 19 at the nearest plenary meeting.
Bloc of Petro Poroshenko’s deputy Oleksandr Suhoniako submitted draft resolution No. 10270-4, which scheduled the inauguration for June 1.
Five draft resolutions concerning the date of Zelenskiy’s inauguration have been registered by the Verkhovna Rada.
The date of May 19 makes it possible to initiate dissolution of the parliament and an early parliamentary election. If the inauguration is scheduled for a later date, the opportunity of dissolving the Rada will be missed, according to experts.
