Ex-Chelsea keeper Thibaut Courtois has another Real Madrid shocker in 3-1 loss to Sociedad

FORMER Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois had another night to forget for Real Madrid on Sunday – as his side lost 3-1 to Real Sociedad.

The Belgian No1, 27, had saved a penalty in the surprise defeat – but went on to make a further two howlers.

Los Blancos chief Zinedine Zidane has already been considering dumping Courtois this summer – and his latest outing will do little to change his mind.

Real Madrid actually took the lead in the game thanks to a Brahim Diaz strike.

However, after stopping a supremely poor penalty to briefly become the hero, Courtois quickly became the villain.

First of all, the ex-Blues stopper allowed a tame header to loop over his head after losing his footing and nestle in the back of the net.

Then he failed to stop a simple rebound shot having already been saved by his own post.

The soft shot from about 18 yards deflected off the underside of Courtois and rifled into the top of the net.

The 3-1 thumping became Real’s 11th La Liga loss of the season – arguably their worst in recent memory.

With Zidane back at the wheel, Los Blancos will hope for a far more impressive 2019-20 season – as they now sit 18 points adrift of Barcelona with a game to play.

And Zizou may opt to start by axing Courtois and reinstalling Keylor Navas – or even bringing in a new No1 in the summer window.

With David De Gea rapidly losing his form and confidence at Manchester United, he is likely to be back in the transfer headlines this summer.

Last month, Zidane hinted at Courtois’ axing, saying: “I assure you that next year there will be no debate about the goalkeeper.

“At the moment I have three good ones. But there will be certainly no debate, I tell you that now. It’s going to be pretty clear.”
