Stevenson to return July 13 in main event
The Top Rank on ESPN show will have competition, as most shows do these days.
Featherweight prospect and rising contender Shakur Stevenson will headline a Top Rank on ESPN show on July 13, returning to his hometown of Newark at the Prudential Center.
Stevenson (11-0, 6 KO) will face an opponent to be named in the main event, with bantamweight Joshua Greer Jr (20-1-1, 12 KO) in the co-feature, according to ESPN.
The 21-year-old Stevenson, a 2016 Olympic silver medalist, last fought on April 20, routing Christopher Diaz on the Crawford-Khan pay-per-view undercard.
Greer, 24, was last seen on Feb. 15, knocking out Giovanni Escaner in Minnesota on the Brant-Baysangurov undercard.
The show will have competition that night from at least DAZN, who will have Rey Vargas vs Tomoki Kameda in a WBC super bantamweight title main event. There will also possibly be a PBC on FS1 card that night in Minnesota featuring welterweight Jamal James.
As frustrating as it can be, this is just the way things are going to be for the foreseeable future, cards running on top of one another, splitting an already small audience. Everyone has huge content deals and they have to pump out shows. Fighters gotta fight. And everyone is still stuck on shows largely being held on Saturday, occasionally on Friday. So it just is what it is at this point, as dumb as it seems on paper to limit how many people are going to watch something that already struggles to find much of an audience.
