Man arrested after body found in wheelie bin behind Waitrose
A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a body was found in a wheelie bin behind a Waitrose store.
Scotland Yard said a 52-year-old had been arrested and police are still working to identify the male victim.
His death is being treated as unexplained after he was found inside the bin in Islington, north London, on Saturday afternoon.
A forensic tent was erected outside the Waitrose with the surrounding streets – half-a-mile away from Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium – taped off.
A Scotland Yard spokesman said: ‘Police were called to Tollington Road, Islington, shortly before 4pm on Saturday, May 11, to reports of a man’s body found in a wheelie bin.
‘Officers attended. Road closures have been put in place at the scene. Detectives are working to establish the man’s identity.
‘At this stage, the death is being treated as unexplained. Enquiries led by the Central North Command continue.’
It comes after concerned neighbours said broad daylight crack dealing was ‘getting out of control’ in the Waitrose car park, according to the Islington Gazette.
There is no suggestion the death is drug related.
