Student Of The Year 2 Box Office Collection Opening Weekend: IPL And Polling Affect Tiger Shroff’s Film, Earns Rs 38.83
As predicted by the trade pundits, Tiger Shroff starrer Student Of The Year 2 couldn’t manage to rake in a grand moolah at the Box Office on its first Sunday. The film collected Rs 12.75 crore on May 12, which is the lowest total it has made so far since Friday. The Punit Malhotra-directorial earned a total of Rs 38.83 crore in its first weekend which is below expectation. Even though the collection doesn’t match the expectations, it’s still decent enough to attract more audience in the coming days. The film is the launchpad for two leading female faces in it – Ananya Panday and Tara Sutaria.
There are two important factors that didn’t let Student Of The Year 2 to flourish at the Box Office: IPL 2019 Finale and phase six of Lok Sabha elections 2019. While the IPL match kept most viewers glued to their TV screens in the evening, the theatres were shut in the states where the polling was happening during the day time.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh took note of both the factors as he revealed the latest Box Office collection of Student Of The Year 2 on Twitter. He posted, “#StudentOfTheYear2 saw limited growth on Day 2, while the sixth phase of polling [cinemas were shut till evening] + #IPL2019Final [evening onwards] affected its biz on Day 3… Fri 12.06 cr, Sat 14.02 cr, Sun 12.75 cr. Total: ₹ 38.83 cr. India biz. #SOTY2” (sic)

Now, after collecting Rs 38.83 cr in its first weekend, SOTY 2 has emerged as the second highest weekend opener for Tiger Shroff at the Box Office. Lying ahead of it on the list is Baaghi 2 that’s considered as Tiger’s best on-screen presence so far. Baaghi 2 (2018) stands at Rs 73.10 crore, following it is SOTY 2 while Baaghi (2016) lies at the third place with the opening weekend collection of Rs 38.58 cr.
It would now be interesting to see how this Dharma Productions’ youth drama fares at the Box Office this week considering two new films – De De Pyaar De and Hollywood’s product John Wick are hitting the theatres this Friday.
