Iran sentences man to 10 years in prison on charges of spying

Iran has sentenced an Iranian man it accuses of spying for the British government to 10 years in prison, local news reported on Monday.

The man, who was not named by the Fars news agency, was working at the British Council and was in charge of design, management and cultural projects.

“An Iranian who was in charge of Iran desk in the British Council and was cooperating with Britain’s intelligence agency… was sentenced to 10 years in prison after clear confessions,” Gholamhossein Esmaili, a judiciary spokesman, was quoted as saying by Fars news agency.

But Iran accused the man of spying for the British government. The news agency said the man had confessed to the crime and was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
