Pep Guardiola claimed his 26th trophy as a football manager after Man City beat Liverpool to the 2018-19 Premier League title.

According to Express.co.uk citing Marca, the Spaniard has now worn more trophies than rival Jose Mourinho, who was sacked by Man United last December.

At the last count, the 2018-19 Premier League title was Guardiola’s fifth trophy since arriving Man City, with the ex-Barca boss guiding the Etihad dwellers to two League Cup titles, one Community Shield and last season’s Premier League.

The Spaniard is also closing in on course to winning his sixth trophy with City when they tackle Watford in the FA Cup final at Wembley next weekend.

Interestingly, the 2018-19 EPL title win sees Guardiola move ahead of Mourinho and is now fifth on the all-time list of top-tier trophies won by football managers.

The quartet of Alex Ferguson (49), Mircea Lucescu (32) Valeriy Lobanovskyi (30) and Ottmar Hitzfeld are ahead of City boss.

And Guardiola has declared that winning this year’s Premier League remains the toughest league title in his career.

“I think first we have to say congratulations Liverpool as well - and thank you of course - because they helped us to push and improve our standard from last season,” Guardiola said

“To compete with this side, this team, we should do what we have done, so incredible, 198 points since we started two seasons ago here, and we finished here this season, made back-to-back – it has been an incredible season for us.

“I think last season we made their standard higher, and Liverpool have helped us being there all the time.

“To win the title we’ve won 14 games in a row, in three months where we couldn’t lose one point, and we did while playing all competitions to the end, it’s incredible to do that.

“After the gap went to seven points we thought ‘OK we have to be calm, the Premier League is long’ - but honestly, seven points with this Liverpool playing the way they have this season, of course we talk about going game by game, but it was really difficult.

“I think it’s not just my feeling, it’s the feeling of the team and the club, the players and the staff, this is the toughest Premier League title win that we have won, in my career by far.

“We don’t have one player to make the difference, to score 50 goals - we have to do it as a team, and I remember for example when Kyle [Walker] was not so good Danilo helped us for example, so that is the secret, we push each other and I push myself, it’s the only way.

“Next season will be tougher, but we’ll be stronger too, so I think this when you win two in a row in this country you have done really, really well, that is the reality, and I have the feeling next season, looking back we will try to be who we are now," Guardiola summed up.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Man City have been crowned champions of the 2018/19 Premier League season after beating Brighton 4-1 in their last game on Sunday, May 12.

Pep Guardiola's men had to come back from a goal down to score three goals against their opponents thanks to fantastic display by David Silva who gave superb assists.

Brighton scored the first goal in this encounter in the 27th minute through a powerful header by Glenn Murray who was assisted by Pascal Gross.

But the visitors restored parity almost immediately through Sergio Aguero who was superbly set up by David Silva in the 28th minute.

Defender Aymeric Laporte netted the second goal for Manchester City in the 38th minute after receiving a glorious pass from Riyad Mahrez.
