Nigerian troops rescues 29 women, 25 children from Boko Haram

- The Nigerian Army has rescued 29 women from Boko Haram terrorists in Borno state

- The women were rescued alongside 25 children by the troops of the 22 Brigade under Operation Lafiya Doyle

- According to the Army, the operation was carried out in collaboration with some local vigilantes in the area

Twenty nine women and 25 children have been rescued by some troops of the 22 Brigade, operation Lafiya Dole.

The women and the children were rescued in collaboration with some local vigilantes in the hinterland during an operational clearance by the troops to destroy Boko Haram terrorists in Borno state.

The acting director of Army public relations, Sagir Musa, in a statement said the troops on Saturday, May 11, cleared Ma'allasuwa and Yaga - Munye villages in Borno state.

Musa said the operation forced the terrorists to run away leaving behind 54 suspected kidnapped victims.

"Out of the number, 29 are grown up women and 25 are children of various ages and sex. They have all been rescued," Musa said.

He added that in the same vein a similar operation troops of 145 Battalion discovered and cleared two Boko Haram camp at Zari - Kasake and Jumachere villages in Damasak general area of Mobbar local government area of the state.

He said logistics vehicles belonging to the terrorists were deserted and their make up shift accommodation destroyed.

Musa said: "Additionally, Mopol Sergeant Markus John - Personal Number - PNo 383106 was arrested at Njimtilo check point along Maiduguri - Damaturu road in possession of 2 magazines, 146 rounds of 7.62 mm special ammunition and one round of Anti Aircraft Gun concealed in his bag while on transit to Lagos state."

He said: "Recall that on the 10th of May 2019, troops of Operation LAFIYA DOLE in conjunction with the Nigerian Police, arrested 14NA7113208 Private Paul Ojochegbe and 12NA672586 Lance Corporal Oko Eke in possession of one disassembled AK 47 Rifle at the same N'jimtilo check point."

Musa added that the Nigerian Army will remain resolute in ending terrorism and other forms of insecurities across Nigeria.

He also appealed to the public to continue to provide useful information about suspicious movement of terrorists wherever they are seen hibernating in Nigeria.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the Nigerian Army on Tuesday, November 13, announced that the Operation Lafiya Dole has successfully rescued 16 women and children from the captivity of Boko Haram insurgents in the Ngoshe area of Borno state.

The Army said the troops shot dead two of the terrorists during a gun battle, while others fled with gunshot injuries. It also announced that stolen food items discovered in the terrorists’ hideout were set on fire.
