Luke Bryan jokes on ‘American Idol’ that Laine Hardy is ‘lookin’ like a whole snack’ after ‘Hey Jude’ performance [WATCH]
Following Laine Hardy‘s performance of The Beatles‘ “Hey Jude” during the live Top 5 show of “American Idol,” Luke Bryan joked that the season’s heartthrob was “lookin’ like a whole snack” in his shiny pink suit jacket. Fellow judge Katy Perry, who last week had to be physically subdued from chasing after Laine, exclaimed, “A whole snack? I love it!” Do you think Laine has done enough to win Season 17 of “American Idol”? Make your predictions at Gold Derby before next Sunday’s finale.
“Great job, Laine,” Luke told the 18-year-old country singer from Livingston, Louisiana. That’s when Lionel Richie chimed in, “I’m gonna say just two little phrases. One, I think that is my jacket. And number two, vote, you guys. America, vote.”
Katy added, “Hey Laine, that was just super cool, man. You’ve got this. You know what? Whatever happens, thank you for coming back and agreeing to do this all over again, because I think that’s what made a difference.”
Also during the Top 5 episode, Laine took on The Marshall Tucker Band‘s “Can’t You See” as his Bobby Bones pick and “Something About The Way You Look Tonight” as his Elton John performance. At the end of the two hours, the Top 3 singers were revealed to be Laine, Alejandro Aranda and Madison VanDenburg. That meant both Wade Cota and Laci Kaye Booth were eliminated from the competition, as Gold Derby predicted.
Laine is close to becoming the third “American Idol” winner to claim victory after being eliminated in a prior season. (The other two were Candice Glover from Season 12 and Caleb Johnson from Season 13.) Laine first appeared last year but was cut before the live shows began. He’s noticeably grown leaps and bounds from the 16th season, not just with his voice but also in his style and stage presence. Are fans ready to “Party with the Hardy”?
