BBC Sport: Garth Crooks’ team of the season is ridiculed by fans… for containing TWO Chelsea players
GARTH CROOKS has named his 2018/19 Premier League team of the season – but fans are baffled by some of his choices.
The BBC Sport pundit named five Manchester City stars, four from Liverpool and two from Chelsea.
He picked Ederson to play in goal after Pep Guardiola’s side secured the Premier League title with a win over Brighton.
The 25-year-old made 20 clean sheets this season, but fans have slammed him for not including Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson.
Speaking on Twitter, one fan said: “No Allison and No [Mohamed] Salah. Most clean sheets and joint top goal scorer.”
The former Tottenham star picked Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, Antonio Rudiger and Andrew Robertson in defence.
Very few would claim Van Dijk does not deserve his spot, but fans begged him to swap Rudiger for Aymeric Laporte.
One said: “Rudiger?! Are you having a giraffe Garth? Alderweireld, Laporte and Vertonghen have all been far better!”
In the midfield, Crooks picked City duo Bernardo Silva and Fernandinho to play alongside Chelsea ace Eden Hazard.

But it was his omission of Mohamed Salah from the front three that raised concerns for some fans on social media.
Instead, the 61-year-old went for Raheem Sterling, Sergio Aguero and Sadio Mane after his brace against Wolves on Sunday.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Salah and Mane finished the season as joint top-scorers with 22 goals – but only one of them made the cut.
