Barnaby is an adorable senior shih tzu. He’s a sweet older boy that will make a great little companion for someone who has a mellow home and is happy with a laid-back buddy to kick up their legs with and read a good book. He’s 14 years old and has tons of pep in his step. He’s highly food motivated, so he’s a lot of fun to teach new tricks to. Visit Barnaby at Berkeley Humane Society, 2700 Ninth St. in Berkeley and open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays through Sundays. See all of their animals at www.berkeleyhumane.org. For more information, call 510-845-7735.

Seven-year-old Chihuahua Heidi is super-sweet and friendly. She gets along with other dogs and people of all ages. Her owner took very good care of her before having to move into assisted living. However, she would love to lose a few pounds by walking more and eating less. Come meet this cuddly little girl at Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter (FAAS), 1590 Fortmann Way in Alameda, open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Sunday. See all of their animals at alamedaanimalshelter.org. For more information, call 510-337-8565.

Danny is quite a guy. Even in the kennel you can tell he’s a real go-getter, all ready to get outside and move the day along! Want to get more exercise? Action is his middle name. He’s a Chihuahua mix with tons of energy. In his new home, everyone should be middle school-age or older. He could run for miles, chase a ball for hours and still want to play. Meet Danny at the East Bay SPCA, Oakland, at 8323 Baldwin St. in Oakland from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. Find this pet’s profile online at eastbayspca.org/adoptions/adopt-me.

Gandalf is a gentle soul with big eyes and silky gray fur that would be happy in a quiet home. His human dad went into long-term care and now Gandalf can bring his loving companionship to you. To meet this 5-year old sweetheart, contact Gemma at gemmaos@sbcglobal.net. Most Community Concern for Cats (CC4C) felines can be seen at weekend adoption events from 1 to 4 p.m. at Pet Food Express in Pleasant Hill and Lafayette and at Petco in Walnut Creek. For more information, visit communityconcernforcats.org online.

If you’re looking for a fun-sized pit bull, Petunia (ID# A130998) is your girl. We think Petunia is about 2 years old, and she is just a joy to be around. She’s had a few visits with the local kids who walk her on Wednesdays, so we think she would enjoy a big family to start her new life with.

Marco? Polo! (ID # A131527) Looking for a furry friend to add to the family? Look no further. Polo is a delight to have around. This 2-year-old luscious haired boy is so lovable and, unlike the pool game, comes to you when you call his name. Polo loves head rubs, chin scratches and feather toys. Ask to meet either of these pets by their identification numbers above. Those interested in adopting pets from Antioch Animal Services can visit the shelter in person at 300 L St. in Antioch or call 925-779-6989, ext. 4009.
