Ironically, while the debate over the appropriateness of a Holocaust Memorial in Victoria Tower Gardens resurfaced last week, I was embarking on a rather harrowing trip from Amsterdam to Berlin in a bid to understand more about the treatment of Jews in the Thirties and Forties. On my return, I am even more convinced that we need a memorial. And — contrary to the objections of those that say it is too big, too sombre, too central and, from a British perspective, too irrelevant — I am also convinced that it should be right next door to Parliament.
