Paul Gascoigne breaks down in tears on GMB after recalling return to White Hart Lane for Spurs legends match

PAUL GASCOIGNE broke down in tears as he discussed his return to White Hart Lane on Good Morning Britain.

The England hero, 51, rolled back the years in front of 50,000 fans during a legends match against Inter Milan in March.

Gascoigne received a standing ovation from fans when he was introduced from the bench in the second half.

He only managed a few touches of the ball, but the supporters were delighted to see him in action after his problem with alcohol addiction.

During an interview with Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid, the ex-Spurs star admitted he was overwhelmed by the reaction of the fans.

He said: “It was really good. I cried after it.”

He added: “I trained hard for about three months for that then obviously my achilles… but the ovation I got was unbelievable.

“For the time I spent there and the fans – I didn’t expect that. Some of the fans now probably weren’t born when I was playing.”

‘ALCOHOL IS A DISEASE’

Vinnie Jones also appeared during the interview on a live stream from California ahead of his summer tour with Gazza.

And the Welsh hardman, 54, praised his former football rival for his achievements off the pitch.

He said: “It’s hard as you retire as Gazza knows. You’re training with everybody, with the lads every day, you’re having banter, great fun, and then all of a sudden one day it stops.

“I was lucky enough to go onto something else but when you try and stay in the game, you know, alcohol is a disease and Gazza fights very well with that now, just like he did when he played.”

During their playing career, Jones infamously grabbed Gascoigne’s crotch during a game between Newcastle and Wimbledon.

Speaking about the incident, Jones said: “I’d have grabbed him by the hair if he had any so I grabbed him by the nuts.”

Gascoigne added: “It really hurt. I nearly lost my family allowance.”
