Woodward needs to put overwhelmed Solskjaer out of his misery… with him at the wheel Man Utd are facing a road to oblivion
IF Ed Woodward had anything about him he would pull Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in today and ask his manager Manchester United if they made a mistake appointing him.
Depending on the reflex reaction, United’s exec vice-chairman would be entitled to make an immediate decision on his future.
With two of the worst results in United history to finish the season, this appointment has already turned into a catastrophe.
Ole has been overwhelmed by this job, failing to hold court in the dressing room since he was appointed full-time.
It is too big for him, with the task underlined by these shameful performances against Huddersfield and Cardiff.
With Ole at the wheel, United are on the road to oblivion.
JU BEAUTY
JULIAN SPERONI has been a magnificent, devoted and loyal servant to Crystal Palace down the years.
He got a proper send-off at the Coliseum yesterday, with Palace fans staying behind to show their respect and the esteem in which he his held in south London.
It is to Speroni’s credit that he did not want to disrupt the rhythm of the team by taking up the back-up keeper’s spot on the bench for the crazy 5-3 win over Bournemouth.
That says it all about the Argentinian’s class and humility.
Nigel Martyn will remain the best keeper in Palace history, but Speroni is undoubtedly the most popular.
BRIGHT SPARKS
CREDIT to Brighton for putting on a post-match, title-winning party for Manchester City inside the Amex.
Once the Seagulls had completed their lap of appreciation, they pumped in Blue Moon at full volume in advance of the City players returning to pick up the trophy.
These presentations have turned into quite a thing over the years and this was no different.
The Seagulls, beaten 4-1 on home turf, played their part in making sure City could celebrate in style.
Good on them for that.
MAUR MISTAKES
MAURICIO POCHETTINO’S threat to walk away from Tottenham after the Champions League was unnecessary.
The journey to the final is tough for any manager, regardless of the resources or the size and pedigree of the squad available.
Poch has done a spectacular job, assembling one of the most eye-catching and popular squads in European football under his watch.
After the spectacular manner of their victory over Ajax Amsterdam, Poch should have sat back and savoured the moment.
Instead he disrupted the rhythm, with doubts creeping in about his long-term to commitment after such a special achievement.

BOW TO LEE
VERY few people who came across Lee Bowyer earlier in life would have had him down as the management type.
His maturity should be celebrated, especially after taking his beloved Charlton to within 90 minutes of the League One play-off final.
Bowyer won at Doncaster, widely regarded as the best football team in the division, yesterday in the first leg of the play-offs.
With the return to come at the Valley, Bowyer is within sight of taking Charlton to Wembley for the play-off final.
He is a gritty, determined type, but his application and willingness to learn the art of management commands respect.
Bowyer, unquestionably, has that.
