RRS ARRESTS EX-CONVICTS, ONE OTHER FOR ROBBERY
The operatives of Lagos State Rapid Response Squad (RRS) have arrested two ex-convicts and one other suspect for robbery in Lekki.
The suspects, Mohammed Abubakar, 25; Emmanuel Michael, 20 and Simeon Michael, 27, were arrested after robbing a 25-year-old lady of her belongings at Lekki Phase One.
According to the preliminary investigation, one of the robbers, Emmanuel Michael stated that he was recently released from prison after spending time for four years for manslaughter and that with the assistance of his brother he travelled down to Lagos and stayed in Alaba Rago, Ojo where he met Mohammed Abubakar who lured him into robbery.
On his part, Mohammed Abubakar, 25, who is also an ex-convict, while pleading for leniency, claimed that he invited Emmanuel Michael and Simeon Michael, 27 for what he referred to as a “Student Parole”.
He said “We were on “student parole”. We saw the lady and our interest was to scare her into parting away with her mobile phone. We told her we were Aiye Cult members and that the colour of her dress gave her out as rival cult member”.
Abubakar, who is a stylist was arrested in Maryland, Lagos in September 2018 for robbery but released in December 2018 from Ikoyi Prison.
In view of the development, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Muazu Zubairu has directed that the RRS Decoy Team should intensify operations in all areas while the suspects have been transferred to State Anti-Robbery Unit for further investigations.
