Trek Domane warning pointless post

On Mother's Day I rented bikes to go on the Gainesville- Hawthorne Trail with my amazing daughter. It was a really nice trail; I hope to go back and do the whole thing. But what misery riding on the rented bike! It was too big for me (I barely could stand over it), I hated the shifters and seat and handlebars and overall it was a very uncomfortable ride. I wonder if I would have liked it if was smaller? Am I not a "road bike" person? It was extremely light though!
I'll take my own bike next time after the love bugs abate, they are really bad in central FL right now.
