NWSL Power Rankings - Week 5
Thorns rise to the top as the only undefeated team remaining.
Week 5 ends with some surprise results such as last year’s champions North Carolina Courage picking up their first loss vs Chicago Red Stars, and Utah Royals FC losing at home to Houston Dash.
So without further mindless banter, here’s the power rankings for week 4. (#) indicates last week’s ranking.
- Portland Thorns (3) - They won on the road, and the two teams above them last week both lost. The Thorns are now the only undefeated team in the league.
- North Carolina Courage (2) - Picked up their first loss, but it was on the road so it mitigates the drop.
- Utah Royals (1) - It may be early to say that the international call-ups will hit the Royals hard, but it bears watching.
- Chicago Red Stars (4) - Beat the defending champs, but it was at home. Not quite enough to break into the top 3 yet...
- Washington Spirit (6) - Won on the road, but it was against last year’s worst team.
- Houston Dash (7) - Went to Utah and handed the Royals their first loss.
- Seattle Reign (5) - Bye week, but other results pushed them lower.
- Sky Blue FC (8) - Made the game vs the Spirit a real battle, but came up one goal short.
- Orlando Pride (9) - Downed at home... by two goals... again.
