Freddie Starr’s family to hold urgent meeting to decide if his body will be brought back to UK for funeral

FREDDIE STARR’S family are holding emergency talks to decide if his body should be brought back to Britain for burial.

The funnyman’s relatives have been in contact with Spanish officials to bring his remains home after he died in his Costa Del Sol home last week aged 76.

There are fears the penniless star could end up in a pauper’s grave in Spain.

But relatives are meeting to discuss plans to ship Freddie’s body home to the UK, according to his third wife, Donna Such, 48.

She told The Sun: “We’re all doing our bit, but that’s all I can say at the moment.

“When we know more we will be in a position we will make that known.”

Asked if they were hoping to repatriate his body she said: “That will be the family decision, but that would be the ideal thing to do.”

SEX PROBE ‘DEVASTATED’ COMIC

The comic’s carer and companion Nelly Georgieva, 47 – who discovered his body – had been stressing over the lack of contact with his family.

But Donna said: “We’d love to speak to Nelly, we have been trying to trace her, and she is welcome to contact us.”

Meanwhile, the madcap comic confided that a probe into sexual abuse allegations “devastated” him, his sister revealed to Sun Online.

The entertainer was investigated under Operation Yewtree, but not charged.

Brenda Hughes told Sun Online her brother was “devastated and I don’t think he ever properly recovered” after the police investigation.

It comes as a kind-hearted funeral director’s offered to repatriate the comedian’s body and hold a ceremony for free.

Michael Fogg, 54, who runs Sheffield funeral business, Michael Fogg Family Funeral Directors, decided to step up after reading Starr had died.

He told Sun Online: “I liked him, he made me laugh, he was a funny man.”For the grace of god there go I, you know.

“It’s thanks to The Sun for bringing it to my attention on social media.

“I thought ‘there’s no way that this should be and that this family should be in this position’. The main thing is to get Freddie back home.

“I couldn’t bear the thought of his family being in turmoil at him being over there.”

The comedian’s funeral arrangements could be complicated as his last Sophie Lea, 37 is the only signatory who can sign off the plans.

Freddie’s passport expired in April, which also makes repatriation a little more complicated, but not impossible.
