DSC’s Sensational Seven at Senior Regional Champs!

0

DSC’s Senior Regional Championships 2019 started with a BOOM! at the 50m competition pool Inspire Luton.  Held over the weekend of 4th/5th May our seven sensational senior qualifiers did not disappoint with medals, pb’s, county records, lifetime bests and no less than 6 finals between them! Amazing swimming from them all putting DSC 11th overall in the points/medals tables with over 30 clubs competing!  Our seven swimmers this year were Walter Hackett, Jessica Kefford, Michael Judd, Millie Dudley, Rhianne Carrick, Maia Morgan and Ollie Ellison – a huge congratulations to you all on some superb swimming!

Walter Hackett (16)

Walter had a busy couple of days at Regionals and fresh from British Champs in Glasgow our senior boy club captain definitely did not disappoint.  He claimed the first gold medal in the 50m backstroke swimming 27.77 in his heat and 27.81 in the final.  He won his second gold medal in the 100m backstroke pb’ing from heat to final this being 59.92 and 59.56 respectively also gaining a new Beds county record.  Finally in the 200m backstroke (the distance he least favours) won his 3rd gold medal in a time of 2.12.43 and swimming a blistering final in 2.11.04 – over a second pb from heat to final! This made him the fastest in any age group, giving him a new lifetime best and new Beds junior county record. Totally sensational swimming Walter and we are all very proud of you!!

Walter also went onto swim the 50m breaststroke in 33.93, 50m butterfly in 28.87, 50m freestyle 26.44 and the 100m freestyle in 57.96.

Jessica Kefford (15)

Jess has had the most amazing championships.  She is a real grafter and deserves every success in the pool, rarely missing any training sessions to ensure she reaches her goals.  Jess swam a sensational 50m backstroke in 32.39 ranked 5th and cruised easily into the final.  In the final with a blanket finish, but bang on pb of 32.45 she came in 7th position.  In the 100m backstroke Jess swam 1.09.92 in the heats again ranking her 5th for the final, finishing in 6th place overall in a time of 1.10.18 – super swimming Jess, really very well done!

Jess also swam in the 200m backstroke in a fantastic time of 2.33.55 giving her 10th place, almost making her 3rd final! In the 50m freestyle Jess pulled out a staggering 29.68 another huge pb! Finally in her 100m freestyle she swam a very respectable 1.04.49 – Well done Jessica!

Michael Judd (20)

Michael is one of the most hardworking swimmers in the club, working full time and still putting in the shifts at the pool.  Because of this determination, Michael always produces some excellent swimming.  He swam a really excellent 200IM in 2.16.54 (a huge pb) putting him in 8th place for the final, his first senior final ever!  Coming 8th overall in the final in a time of 2.22.36 – a huge well done! Michael also swam the 200m backstroke in a time of 2.15.73 ranking him a very respectable 12th place.  In his 100m backstroke he swam 1.05.94, 100m breaststroke 1.13.91, 50m backstroke 29.03 and finally 50m breaststroke in 32.27.

Millie Dudley (15)

Millie scooped up all 4 of her 50m strokes to qualify for regionals in sensational style, and once there she performed some brilliant swimming! Millie swam the 50m butterfly in a brilliant 31.30 giving her 14th place in the region overall, similarly in her 50m breaststroke in a time of 37.10. In her 50m freestyle she swam a blistering 29.76, and 50m backstroke in 33.64.  Brilliant and very fast 50m swims Millie – well done! In Millie’s 100m butterfly she performed a staggering 1.12.24 making her 12th in the region.

Rhianne Carrick (15)

Rhianne has worked tirelessly to get herself to regionals and again deserves every success.  Through the qualifying period the whole of DSC were willing and supporting her to gain these elusive times and post Beds County Champs she did just that – in style! Swimming the 50m breaststroke Rhi swam in a great time of 38.06 and for her 50m butterfly she swam in a totally brilliant time of 31.65 making her 18th in the region overall.  Very well done Rhi.

Maia Morgan (16)

Our Senior Girl Captain Maia Morgan also swam brilliantly over the 2 days at regionals.  Now very focused on her exams this summer, she pulled out a blinder and confirmed both of her swims in the top 20 in the region! In the 100m breaststroke Maia swam 1.24.19 making her 19th in the region and in her 50m breaststroke she swam in 37.64 giving her 17th in the region overall – very well done Maia!

Ollie Ellison (16)

DSC were delighted when Ollie Ellison qualified for regionals in his 50m freestyle.  All of our 16 year old swimmers are heavily in exam period, so to qualify at all is truly exceptional.  Well done Ollie on your 27.06 50m freestyle race.

Director of Swimming Tim Hutton said “Another amazing regionals for our swimmers at DSC. The swimmers have been exceptional all season and thoroughly deserving of their success. We now look forward to the next regional championships in Norwich and then focus in for the home straight of the season and the road to British Summer Championships”.

Junior Regional Champs is running over the next bank holiday weekend in May at the UEA Norwich, where our sensational breaststroker Ollie Bradshaw will be in action.
