Splash. Flop. Slide. Summer is around the corner, which means that it’s almost time to slather the kids in sunscreen and head to one of California’s epic water parks.
From Chula Vista’s Aquatic San Diego to Sacramento’s Raging Waters, the state is filled with fun splash zones for cooling off, soaking up sun and thoroughly exhausting the kiddos. Most have already opened for the season with weekend hours.
By June, most will expand to weekdays and even evening events, like the summer night slides at Six Flags Hurricane Harbor. The Concord water park just unveiled a new interactive water play area — Splashwater Island — with a monster tube called Honolulu Halfpipe.
In Southern California, Great Wolf Lodge’s water park is the stuff of splash legends. The Garden Grove indoor water park resort, which is opening a second location in Manteca in 2020, offers a whopping 105,000-square feet of water play, from the Howlin’ Tornado thrill slide to Wolf Tail, a vertical launch pod that drops you 20 feet into a watery, high-speed loop.
Farther south, in Carlsbad, Legoland Water Park offers slippery slides, a Joker Soaker with water cannons blasting at every angle and rafts to build and swoop your way down a not-so-lazy river. Here are eight fantastic water parks in California. Happy splashing.
