Villar-Aguilar clan extends hold in Las Piñas
IT will be three more years for the Villar-Aguilar clan in Las Piñas City as reelectionist Imelda Aguilar was proclaimed mayor before midnight on Tuesday.
Aguilar received 170,972 votes or 87.80 percent of the total number of ballots, besting six other independent candidates who sought to end the family’s 24-year stronghold.
April Aguilar, the lady mayor’s daughter, also won the vice mayoralty race with 161,789 votes or 86.32 percent of total ballots, besting independent candidate Antonio Abelar Jr. who got 25,638 or 13.67 percent of the total votes cast.
Camille Villar, Sen. Cynthia Villar’s daughter, beat independent candidate Jerry Delos Reyes for the lone district seat at the House of Representatives. Sen. Villar is Mayor Aguilar’s sister-in-law.
Two other Aguilars, Peewee and Lord, topped the 1st and 2nd district city council elections.
The first Aguilar to take the helm as mayor was Filemon Aguilar in 1964. However, when his term ended in 1986, it was only in 1995 that another Aguilar, Vergel, Imelda’s husband was elected as mayor.
Since then, husband and wife took turns as mayor.
