Mikel set for Super Eagles return ahead of AFCON 2019

John Mikel Obi is set to stage a comeback to the Super Eagles close to a year absence from the national team.
According to The Sun report citing Bestchoicesports.com.ng, Eagles manager Gernot Rohr, who is currently in the United Kingdom is expected to hold talks with his captain as well as fine-tune preparations ahead of next month’s Africa Cup of Nations, (AFCON) in Egypt.
“The coach will begin to have a closer relationship with his captain and that’s the main reason behind his trip to England.

“The team also need the personality of Mikel, both on and off the pitch.
“Do you know if we need five sets of tracksuits, Mikel will get the NFF leadership to meet that need?
“Without him, we may at best get two sets of tracksuits.
“He’s a leader respected by both the players and officials,” a top official of the football house was quoted as saying to Bestchoicesports.com.ng.
Interestingly, Mikel last featured for Nigeria at the 2018 World Cup tie against Argentina in Saint Petersburg.

The report further revealed that the former Chelsea star Mikel, who made his AFCON debut at the 2006 edition, will lead Nigeria at the AFCON 2019.
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that John Obi Mikel has explained that he wants to play at the top level again after scoring for Middlesbrough against Rotherham in the Championship.
Mikel scored his first goal for Boro in the final day 2-1 win at Rotherham, but the season ended in disappointment as his club missed out on sixth place to Derby who beat West Brom 3-1.
He joined Boro in January after leaving the Chinese Super League, and the 32-year-old wants to continue his football in Europe.
