Police identify 5 suspected kidnappers from Katsina, 4 from Kaduna recover 200 stolen cows, weapons

The Nigeria Police Force, in the evening of Monday, May 13, confirmed the arrest of nine suspected kidnappers giving travellers on the Abuja-Kaduna highway hell.

The police also announced that it recovered 200 stolen cows and various kinds of ammunition saying the success was recorded under the 'Operation Puff Adder'.

“In the latest development, a combined team of police operatives attached to Operation Puff Adder on the 11th May, 2019 arrested nine kidnap suspects and recovered of two (2) AK47 Rifles, four (4) AK47 Magazines, fifty Four (54) rounds of live ammunition, five (5) dane guns and 200 stolen cows,” the police said in a statement by Frank Mba, the force public relations officer.

According to the statement, the suspects included: Ayuba lawal, Saidu Bello, Abdullahi Bello, Adamu Lawal, and Umar Sani, all males and indigenes of Dan Musa local government area of Katsina state.

The police said the suspects were arrested at Kudaru forest in Lere local government area of Kaduna state following credible intelligence and support from the locals in the community.

The other four suspects, Muhammed Sani, Jibrin Shehu, Usman Sani, Musa Garba, all males, were arrested at Akilbu forest around Chikwale in Kachia local government area of Kaduna state.

“All the suspects have made useful statement to the police on their involvement in a series of kidnap cases on the Abuja-Kaduna expressway," the statement said.

It added that the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, had commended the people for their cooperation and support to the law enforcement agency.

He also assured that with the consistent support by the public, the war against kidnapping and other heinous crimes in the country would be won in no distant time.

Legit.ng earlier reported that the police on Sunday, May 12, said they had rescued two kidnapped persons and arrested three suspects in connection with the crime.

The suspects, force spokesman, Frank Mba, a deputy commissioner of police, Mohammed Bello, aka 'Dan Hajia', 42; Suleiman Musa, aka 'Dan Auta', 38 and Abubakar Bello, aka 'Abu Kango', 28.

Mba said in a statement in Abuja that the victims were rescued by operatives attached to 'Operation Puff Adder'.
