Woman in Fremont suffers major injuries after being hit by car Sunday night
FREMONT — A pedestrian suffered head trauma and other major injuries Sunday night when she was hit by a car, police said Monday.
Police were in the process of confirming the woman’s identity. They said she appeared to be in her late teens to early 20s.
Police said she was struck by a 1997 Toyota Camry about 10:30 p.m. Sunday on Thornton Avenue near the northbound entrance to Interstate 880. Police have not said if the woman was in a crosswalk.
The driver of the car, a 68-year-old Fremont resident was not initially aware he had hit the woman but stopped a short distance away and is cooperating with investigators, police said.
The woman was unconscious but breathing when emergency personnel arrived on the scene and transported her to a hospital. Her condition has not been released.
Police said Monday drugs or alcohol do not appear to be factors in the collision.
