Ole Miss softball earns bid to host NCAA Regional for second time in school history
OXFORD — Beginning on Friday, the Ole Miss softball team will host an NCAA Regional for the second time in school history.
The Rebels earned their fourth postseason bid in program history on Sunday night, being selected to host the Oxford Regional beginning on Friday, May 17. In addition to Ole Miss (37-17, 13-10 SEC), the regional will include No. 2 Louisiana-Lafayette (50-4, 25-0 Sun Belt), No. 3 Southeast Missouri State (45-16, 17-5 OVC) and No. 4 Chattanooga (35-17, 11-7 SoCon). Ole Miss is the No. 11 overall seed in the 2019 NCAA Softball Tournament, pairing the Oxford Regional with the Tucson Regional hosted by No. 6 Arizona.
This season marks the fourth consecutive year that Ole Miss softball has qualified for the NCAA Tournament and will represent the first time since 2017 that the Rebels are hosting a regional.
Regional formats require a team to win three games to advance to the Super Regional round. The tournament is double elimination format. Ole Miss will open its slate on Friday against Chattanooga at 6 p.m. and will play the winner of Louisiana-Lafayette versus Southeast Missouri on Saturday.
