NCAA Tournament 2019: Alabama State softball faces Alabama in Tuscaloosa Regional
The Alabama State softball team doesn't have to go far to compete in its first NCAA regional since 2016.
The Hornets will travel to Tuscaloosa to face eighth-seeded Alabama (52-7) at 5:30 p.m. Friday in the opening round.
ASU (24-23) beat Texas Southern on Saturday to win the SWAC Tournament.
Alexis Sydnor leads the Hornets in hitting with a .387 batting average with 34 runs scored.
The SWAC Newcomer of the Year scored 34 runs and drove in another 27 runs this season; while Kristin Gunter is hitting .329 on the season with 15 extra base hits on the season, while Alexis Massie is hitting .330 in her freshman campaign.

Alexis Massie has a .327 batting average with nine home runs.
SWAC Tournament MVP Justine Jean (12-12) leads ASU in innings pitched, appearances and strikeouts this season.
The last time ASU and Alabama met, the Crimson Tide downed the Hornets 10-0 in 2004.
Alabama State will also be in the regional with Arizona State (33-18) and Lipscomb (41-13-1), who will meet in the first game of the regional.
