[Softball] No. 3 OCU wins 9-0 over Falcons in NAIA Opening Round
OKLAHOMA CITY – The No. 3-ranked and top-seeded Oklahoma City University Stars defeated the Friends University Falcons 9-0 in the NAIA Opening Round of the Oklahoma City Bracket today (May 13) at Ann Lacy Stadium.
Jaci Smith ignited the Stars with four RBIs, starting with a solo homer in the first inning for the first run of the game.
Smith then struck again with a two-run double to key a five-run second inning for OCU.
After the Stars added to the cushion with a run in the fourth, Smith doubled home another run to spark a two-run sixth frame.
Hali Walters (SO/Longmont, Colo.) pitched six innings for the Falcons (28-18), giving up nine runs, but only six earned with a pair of strikeouts.
Jaden Shores blanked the Falcons over six frames and struck out 14, allowing just one hit to Cassie Jones (SR/Erie, Colo. ).
Along with Smith, Kennedy Jackson also had three hits for OCU (55-6), who will play Olivet Nazarene tomorrow in a winner's bracket contest at 11 am.
The Falcons will face Morningside College in an elimination game tomorrow (May 14) at 1 pm. Morningside fell 4-2 to Olivet Nazarene earlier today.
