Uh-Oh
The Yankees just announced they acquired Kendrys Morales from Oakland. I’m very worried.
Think about it. Morales is hitting .204 as a 1B/DH while earning $11-million this season. He is not eligible to go to the minors, so he has to be on the big league roster. Why would the Yankees do this unless someone we don’t know about is hurt?
Sure, it could be Andujar electing to have season-ending surgery, but the Yankees have Urshela to cover that. Beyond that, they expect Didi back, so they could move LeMathieu to third and Gleybar back to second. Voit seems ok, so they don’t need a 1B, which means they think they need a guy who can DH regularly. That leads me to believe that either Judge or Stanton is hurt much more than they thought. My money is on Stanton who went to the DL with a small injury and hasn’t been back because of “shoulder problems”.
I could be wrong, but I find it really odd that the Yankees would suddenly take a chance on a guy hitting .204/.310/.259 with an $11-million price tag attached to him unless something else was seriously wrong.
