Alvarado and Konishi make weight, easily
Tomorrow Japanese fight fans at the Portopia Hotel will get the chance to see Reiya Konishi (17-1, 7) [小西伶弥] challenge IBF Light Flyweight champion Felix Alvarado (34-2, 30), in what could turn out to be the gem of the weekend.
Earlier today, ahead of their bout, the two fighters too part in their weigh in and both men made weight with ease, coming in comfortably under the 108lb divisional limit.
On the scales the challenger was the heavier man, weighing but came in 100g's, or around around 0.22lbs under the limit. He looked in good shape, confident, and really seemed relaxed.
Alvarado, surprisingly, was 300g's under the limit, around 0.66lbs. He too looked in great shape, and although light on the scales he seems to have come in light to avoid a situation like he had last time he fought, where making weight was difficult. The champion was apparently just over the limit on Friday and wasn't going to battle the scales, rather blitzing them and looking great doing so.
Interestingly it wasn't just Alvarado making sure he made weight, and Konishi revealed to the press that he was able to make weight 2 days ago, and even managed to eat this morning, a real surprise to hear from a fighter who typically struggles with the scales.
