Ian Wright says Man City striker Jesus will be ‘devastated’ Sterling tapped in his FA Cup final goal an inch from being over the line
IAN WRIGHT reckons Gabriel Jesus will be “absolutely devastated” that Raheem Sterling pinched his FA Cup final goal.
Jesus got the finishing touch to Bernardo Silva’s 38th-minute cross, but with the ball going in anyway and not totally over the line, Sterling smashed it in.
The goal has officially been awarded to Sterling even though Jesus wheeled away in celebration after it was initially given to him.
Speaking on the BBC, host Gary Lineker asked Wright and fellow pundit Alan Shearer: “Did Sterling try to pinch it?”
And quizzed further on whether, in their shoes, they would be unhappy about it, England striker Wright replied: “I wouldn’t be a bit unhappy I’d be absolutely devastated. It looks like a bit of the ball is still on the line.
“Sterling was just finishing it off cheekily but I think it might be his.
“You can’t get a conclusive look at it but he seems determined to get it.”
Lineker added: “It doesn’t look like it’s completely over the line and it’s a bit harsh on Jesus.”
