Trolls keep Fawad Chaudhry on a tight leash
KARACHI: Following a reshuffle in the federal cabinet, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Fawad Chaudhry, the former information minister, was handed over the Ministry of Science and Technology.
As information minister, he remained the centre of public attention, always in the headlines due to his sarcastic remarks and blatant criticism of opponents.
Since the change in portfolio, although his media appearances have become less frequent, social media is being barraged with memes, keeping him alive on the Twitter timeline.
So much so, that memes about him have become a staple in the digital landscape. From intervening in the moon sighting issue to his gaffe regarding the Hubble telescope, Chaudhry is being trolled over nearly every utterance.
In a recent talk show, Chaudhry said the Hubble Space Telescope was sent into space by Pakistan’s aeronautics and aerospace research agency Suparco, instead of its US counterpart Nasa.
Since then, a torrent of posts have made its way to the internet, exploiting Chaudhry’s slip-up.
One of the memes shared by a user offers a tip on how to tackle heat while keeping a fast in Ramazan.
Many others also joined the hilarious campaign, and shared “desi science” memes on varying topics.
Interestingly, the firebrand politician’s response took everyone by surprise as the minister maintained that he was not offended and rather enjoyed them.
Taking the proverbial bull by the horns, Chaudhry, in an interview, revealed that he was even forwarded one such meme by Prime Minister Imran Khan.
“Khan sb sent me a meme which says marriage is not a game for children but is played for children,” he said.
