San Jose: Authorities identify man found dead near SJSU

SAN JOSE — The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office on Monday identified a man found dead near San Jose State University last week as John Hasner, 63, of San Jose.

Officers found Hasner lying between the street and the sidewalk about 8:40 a.m. on May 17 while responding to a report of a “possible dead body” in the area of E. San Antonio Street at S. 11th Street, according to San Jose police Officer Gina Tepoorten.

Hasner’s cause of death is pending, but in a statement last week, police said the circumstances surrounding the incident did not appear suspicious or the result of a homicide.

Police originally said Hasner was 75 years old, but the coroner’s office confirmed he was 63.
