Racing Report Card: One for your tracker at Nottingham, a good ride from Tom Marquand and a progressive three-year-old to follow

WITH glorious weather on Tuesday, the best place to be really was on a racecourse – not in the office!

But we’ve been keeping a close eye on the action here at Sun Racing HQ and picked out some snippets you may have missed.

One for the tracker

Dubai Station – 2.10 Nottingham

A relatively cheap purchase from Karl Burke’s yard, this two-year-old colt looked as if he would improve plenty from his career debut. Slow out of the stalls the son of Brazen Beau then began to settle and travel nicely in behind the leaders.

He was pulled wide to make his challenge under Jamie Spencer and came home strongly at the end once the penny dropped to finish a close second under a hands-and-heels ride. He should be winning in the near future.

A progressive colt

Alkaraama – 1.50 Wolverhampton

Sir Michael Stoute’s colt has obviously been a slow-burner having only made his debut in late April. He stepped up on his debut third to scoot clear at odds of 1-4. Alright, it wasn’t a quality field but he did it in good style and looks the type to continue improving now he has that under his belt.

Jockey Jim Crowley reported that he needed to learn to settle if he is to step up in trip but I’m sure Stoute can work his magic and get him rising through the grades.

Ride of the afternoon

Pocket Warrior – 2.00 Brighton

Tom Marquand certainly earned his riding fee on this one! He was seriously outpaced at the back of the main group mid way through the race and looked to be going nowhere down the tricky Brighton hill.

Not looking the easiest of rides either, Marquand managed to get him rolling up the straight and he found an extra gear near the finish to snatch victory in the final strides.
