Spurs ‘leading the race’ to sign La Liga ace with £43m release clause – report

Tottenham Hotspur are leading the race to sign Celta Vigo star Maxi Gomez after holding talks with one of the striker’s representatives, according to the Daily Star.
Last month, we relayed reports from Spain suggesting Spurs had made a bid of around €29 million for Gomez, but Celta were holding out for at least €35 million at the time.
And now, the Star is claiming Gomez has a £43 million release clause that Tottenham might just be willing to meet.
Last summer, West Ham were heavily linked with the 22-year-old, who has scored 13 La Liga goals this season.
However, the Star believes West Ham have given up on Gomez while Liverpool are also said to have cooled their interest.
